Our Story

Relative Value Studies, Inc. (RVSI) is an independent, innovative leader in healthcare reimbursement. Since 1980, we have been developing relative values for health care services. Our data sets are developed independently from payer influence to provide accurate, relational values among services provided by health care professionals. Relative Value Studies, Inc. was founded in 1980 by M. Ray Painter, M.D., F.A.C.S. and Robert M. FitzGerald, J.D., M.P.A., M.S.W.

Relative Value Studies, Inc. was created to develop relative value systems that are both accurate and comprehensive. Our databases are recognized as the most useful tools available for establishing, defending, and negotiating fees for medical, surgical, and dental procedures.

Although relative values are primarily used to develop and update fee schedules, this system can be used for contract development and negotiation (including capitation), productivity measurement, capitation value, alternative payment comparison, and income projection. Most importantly, this system is designed to provide a fair way to assign value to services rendered. The relative values for each procedure are determined by practitioner input.

RVSI believes that practitioners are the best for providing information regarding the relative effort of each procedure.
